Field season is officially here, and out in the Great Basin that means one thing: it's time to get to work. Every spring and summer, our teams fan out across Nevada to treat noxious weeds, survey wildlife, and restore native plant communities. It's sweaty, dusty, satisfying work, and we'd love to have you along.

Through our nine Cooperative Weed Management Areas (CWMAs), we organize hands-on treatment days open to community volunteers. Whether you join a CWMA weed-pulling day or help inspire young people at our annual Kids Camp, your action makes a difference.

If you would like to volunteer, contact us and we'll see where your skills fit our needs. We are a small organization, so we may not be able to use your help right away, especially if it takes real time or money on our end.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @envlc and use #enlcinthefield to see the work happen.

Great Basin Kids Camp

ENLC has hosted an annual Great Basin Kids Camp since 2010 (originally called the Great Basin Kids Workshop), introducing Nevada youth to Great Basin ecology and inspiring lifelong stewardship of the land.

In 2023, campers gathered at Broadbent Park and Ward Charcoal Ovens for a camp themed "Wildlife of the Great Basin." Activities included live raptor programs and owl pellet dissection with HawkWatch International, wildlife-focused Leave No Trace training with NOS, macroinvertebrate stream surveys, and bat education with ENLC staff.

The 2022 camp focused on water quality, invasive plants, and geology across Broadbent Park, Great Basin National Park, and Comins Lake. Campers got geology instruction at the national park, learned native and invasive plant identification, tried water-quality assessment and fishing, and closed the week with a family barbecue.

Kids Camp partners include NOS, the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME), and White Pine County 4-H. #3

ENLC works as a conduit between public and private sectors, exchanging information and ideas for healthy action that benefits Great Basin ecosystems. Our model is collaborative, not adversarial.

We maintain partnerships at the federal, state, and county levels, working with land management and wildlife agencies, local planning and economic development interests, ranchers and farmers, renewable energy groups, environmental and conservation groups, tribal governments, and private parties.
